Sir Peter Paul Rubens

was an artist, diplomat, linguist, and scholar. His style -- rich texture, vivid color, and lively movement -- has influenced Western art to the present day. The exhibit looks at his innovative use of small oil studies and models for his work and examines how he influenced the Baroque style and many other budding young artists. It includes eight paintings of scenes from Greek and Biblical stories. (National Gallery of Art)
