Poetry Out Loud

is a national recitation contest aimed to encourage memorization and performance of great poems. Materials to support that aim are provided online: texts of 450 poems, sound recordings of 35 poetry readings and lectures, and contest information for students and teachers. See poems by more than 250 poets, including Dickinson, Donne, Dove, Eliot, Frost, Hughes, MacLeish, Keats, Shakespeare, Stevens, Wordsworth, Yeats, and others. Interesting Fact:

E.E. Cummings claimed to have composed a poem a day for fourteen years. Cummings developed a unique style of writing, full of experimentation with form, spelling, syntax, and punctuation. Also a painter, he called himself "an author of pictures, a draughtsman of words."
