Science of Energy Balance: Calorie Intake and Physical Activity

Interesting Fact:

Students are generally introduced to nutrition in grade school, where the Food Guide Pyramid is discussed. They are taught the need for a balanced diet in the context of growth and maintaining a healthy body. However, little consideration may be given to physical activity and energy expenditure. Additionally, students may be unaware of the need to provide energy in excess of their activity requirements to maintain the growth they are experiencing.
