National Center for Learning and Teaching in Nanoscale Science and Engineering

offers summer professional development opportunities for teachers and online courses. One course, "Introduction to Nanometer Scale," looks at strategies for controlling the structure of matter and real-world applications that use nanometer scale devices. "What Can Electrons Do?" examines properties of electrons and applications of electron microscopy in characterizing nano-scale materials. (NCLT, National Science Foundation)

Interesting Fact:

All physical and chemical properties are size-dependent over a certain size regime specific to the material and property of interest. When materials, like silver or gold metal, are similar in size to the wavelengths of visible light (400-750 nm), they interact with light in interesting ways. Accordingly, the apparent color of a solution of silver or gold nanoparticles depends strongly on the size and shape of the constituent nanoparticles.
Electron microscopy is important in nanoscience and nanotechnology
