The Art of Romare Bearden

includes more than 30 pieces from this comprehensive retrospective. A preeminent artist of his generation, Bearden (1911-1988) was known for his collages; however, he also produced paintings, drawings, murals, and theater sets and costumes. Themes in his works include religious subjects, rituals, jazz clubs, and history and literature. This website offers a special feature, teaching packet, children's guide, and interactive collage-making tool for kids (of all ages). (National Gallery of Art)
